In 1955, a determined Jack Smith founded his own business. Sequoia Central Vacuum Systems had one employee-Jack, who was the salesperson, purchasing agent, and installer. At the end of the first year, Jack's business had generated more than $20,000. As the business grew, Jack's son, Ward, joined him in creating a family business that was then needing a family name. J. Smith & Sons, Inc. was founded.
In 1976, Smith & Sons expanded to Lake Tahoe, where Jack managed one office, while Ward took responsibility over the one in Sacramento. By then, the company included security and fire systems, as well as the monitoring for these systems, telephone and intercom systems, along with whole-house audio. Because of the need to keep up with the fast pace of technology, Smith & Sons quickly added home automation, home theater, and surround sound systems to its list of low-voltage electronics. This new division, Smith & Sons Home Theater required a new, larger location in order to accommodate the five unique showrooms where customers could experience and select the ultimate in quality audio/video products for their homes.
Today, you can experience the highest quality names is audio/video history: McIntosh, Mitsubishi, Loewe, B&K, Yamaha, Tannoy, Kef, Phase Technology, Draper, CinemaTech, and many more. In addition to the home theater division, Smith & Sons have opened a lighting and house design divition, to handle the increased demand for lighting design, cabinet design, and interior design that occurs on custom home projects.
Smith & Sons, still a family owned and operated business has grown tremendously in support, personnel, and yearly revenues since 1955. Smith & Sons is the product of hard work, a commitment to excellent service, innovative product development and creative marketing.
Today the company plays an integral part in low-voltage electronics in new home developments, construction and remodeling all over Northern California. J Smith & Sons, is well positioned for continued growth well into the next century.
